THE FIRST OF APRIL THIS YEAR SAW THE QUEEN VICTORIA IN NELSON PLACE NEWCASTLE RE-OPEN IT’S DOORS.
Now in the expert hands of Gavin, Katianna & George who are new to this area, plans are in the offing to reintroduce a full menu of lunchtime &evening food in the near future. At the moment there is a great selection available form the bar which includes no less than 3 traditional ales - Timothy Taylor, Courage & Directors Black Sheep Bitter (with plans for more traditionals soon too) - As well as Stella, Carlsberg, Strongbow, Carling, Grolsch, and Guinness (plus extra cold) which are all kept to perfection there are a good selection of bottled beers, alcopops and spirits available. Special offers at the moment include : a double vodka & red bull for £3, a double jack daniel's & pepsi for £3, 3 V.K.’s for £5, 3 bottles of becks for £5 and house doubles for £2 ! - Amazing value here.
Open all day every day from Monday to Saturday and from 3pm on Sundays, The Queen Vic also has a pool table, juke box and darts board for those traditional pub goers. Entertainment here offers an acoustic night every other Wednesday and a games night every Sunday (with various games including X Box games) PLUS Look out for the X Box pub team Live nights - play live on the net ! Now that’s different !
More plans for the future from this enthusiastic trio include a late license, more entertainment including live bands, sky T.V. and also to introduce an I.T. Box (wireless internet) After being closed for 6 months The Queen Victoria is already on it’s way to becoming a great Town Centre pub once again.

UPDATE ON THE SWAN AT BETLEY
Now into their second year Steve and Lex Gilham at The Swan, Betley are well settled in the quaint country pub which takes pride of place right in the middle of this lovely village.
“It’s been a long haul”, says Lex taking a break from preparing the 4 guest rooms, This being our first pub, at our age we thought it would be difficult and it was. Well, not so much difficult as long hours and being tied to the place getting things how we wanted them.
It is paying off though as we have a great staff who have helped tremendously to get the place into “full sail”
With their simple home cooked food from Wednesday evening to Sunday lunch, a fine array of real ales from national & local breweries, a new improved wine range and the bed & breakfast side, this is a very busy pub where there is a family feeling. Everyone knows everyone and is comfortable in the well appointed refurbished bar.
A function room which can cater for family functions, christenings to funerals etc. serve to add to the facilities available and so much needed in a village of this size.
